The India-Variant Problem: Why the Same Phone May or May Not Have NFC

Before the brand-by-brand list, this is the single most important thing to understand about NFC phones in India.

Many Android manufacturers — particularly Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, and Vivo — ship different hardware variants of the same phone model to different markets. The global or Chinese variant of a phone may include NFC. The India variant of the exact same model, sold at the same or lower price, may have NFC removed.

This is not a software limitation. It is a hardware difference — the NFC antenna is physically absent from the India SKU. No software update, no settings toggle, and no third-party app can add NFC to a phone that does not have the hardware.

According to LINQS India's 2026 NFC compatibility guide, budget phones under ₹15,000 — and many ₹15,000–₹25,000 Redmi, Realme, Oppo, and Vivo non-flagship models — frequently omit NFC on the India variant. Always verify your exact model against the India specifications, not the global spec sheet.

The practical rule: if you bought a phone under ₹20,000 from a Chinese brand and didn't specifically check for NFC at the time of purchase, there is a meaningful chance it does not have NFC.

How to Check If Your Phone Has NFC in 30 Seconds

Before consulting the brand list below, check your specific device directly:

On Android: Settings → Connected Devices (or Wireless & Networks) → look for "NFC" as a toggle. If the option does not appear in this menu at all, the phone does not have NFC hardware.

Alternative: Settings → search "NFC" in the search bar. If it returns no results, NFC is not present.

On iPhone: Every iPhone from iPhone 7 (2016) onwards sold in India has NFC. You do not need to check — it is there.

Via manufacturer specification page: Search "[your phone model] specifications" on the manufacturer's India website. Look under Connectivity. NFC will be listed if present. If it is not listed, it is not present — manufacturers do not omit NFC from spec sheets when it is included.

Via 91mobiles or GSMArena: Search your model at 91mobiles.com or gsmarena.com. Filter for India variant. NFC is listed under Connectivity in the spec sheet.

Brand-by-Brand NFC Compatibility: India 2026

Apple iPhone — All Models from iPhone 7 Onwards 

Every iPhone from iPhone 7 (2016) through the latest iPhone 18 series has NFC. Apple has included NFC in every iPhone sold globally — and India is no exception.

Reading NFC tags (for receiving digital visiting cards): iPhones running iOS 13 or later (iPhone XS, XR, and all newer models) can read NFC tags in the background — point the camera toward an NFC card and it reads automatically without opening an app. iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 running iOS 13+ can also read tags but require a deliberate tap.

In practical terms for NFC visiting cards: Every iPhone XS, XR, iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 series phone sold in India reads NFC visiting cards instantly and automatically. No app needed on the recipient's device.

NFC antenna location on iPhones: Top-centre of the phone (back face). Hold the NFC card near the top back of the iPhone for the fastest, most reliable tap.

Samsung Galaxy — Flagship and Mid-Range A-Series 

Samsung is the most NFC-inclusive brand in India across price segments.

Galaxy S series: Every Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, S24, S25, and S26 model — including FE (Fan Edition) variants — includes NFC. This covers models from approximately ₹55,000 upward.

Galaxy Z series: Every Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip model includes NFC. These are Samsung's premium foldables starting above ₹90,000.

Galaxy A series: NFC is available from the Galaxy A50 and above (approximately ₹20,000–₹25,000 and above at time of purchase). Models below the A50 tier — Galaxy A14, A15, A25, A34 — typically do not include NFC in their India variants.

Galaxy M series: Most Galaxy M-series phones sold in India do not include NFC. The M-series is Samsung's India-specific budget and mid-range line, and NFC is typically omitted to maintain price points below ₹20,000.

The Samsung rule for India: If it is a Galaxy S, Z Fold, or Z Flip — NFC is present. If it is a Galaxy A50 or above — likely present. If it is a Galaxy A below A50, or any Galaxy M — likely absent. Always verify the India spec sheet.

OnePlus — All Numbered Flagships 

OnePlus has one of the most consistent NFC inclusion policies of any Android brand in India.

OnePlus numbered flagships (OnePlus 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15): All include NFC. These are OnePlus's premium line starting around ₹60,000–₹70,000.

OnePlus Nord series: The OnePlus Nord, Nord 2, Nord CE, Nord 3, Nord 4, Nord 5, and Nord 6 include NFC. This is significant — it means OnePlus NFC availability extends well into the mid-range (₹25,000–₹40,000 segment).

The OnePlus rule: If it says OnePlus and is a flagship or Nord — NFC is present. OnePlus's India lineup has historically been more NFC-inclusive than most Chinese brands.

Google Pixel — All Models 

According to NFC Clone's 2026 Android NFC compatibility guide, every Google Pixel phone ever made includes NFC — no exceptions. From the original Pixel through Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 XL, and beyond.

Google Pixel phones also offer the fastest and most reliable NFC tag reading experience among Android devices, because Google designs the NFC stack and optimises it at the OS level. Pixel phones read NFC visiting cards with the shortest recognition time of any Android device tested.

Pixel phones in India are available from approximately ₹55,000 upward (Pixel 9 series). All models include NFC.
